The Ayurvedic Doshas: Are you Vata, Pitta, or Kapha?
I was first introduced to Ayurveda about 12 years ago during my yoga teacher training. It’s an ancient system of holistic medicine from India that focuses on balancing the body, mind, and spirit through diet, lifestyle, and natural rhythms. Ever since then, I’ve picked up bits and pieces here and there, through books, podcasts, conversations, and my own curiosity. While I’m definitely not an expert, I find Ayurveda super fun to learn about and experiment with.
One of its core concepts is that we each have a unique mind-body constitution, known as a dosha. The three doshas, Vata (air + ether), Pitta (fire + water), and Kapha (earth + water), represent different energetic forces that influence everything from your digestion and mood to how you sleep and how you handle stress.
This little compilation below isn’t meant to be exhaustive, but it’ll help you start to get a feel for which dosha (or doshas) might be most dominant for you. Think of it as a first step toward tuning in and playing with balance via the ancient system of Ayurveda in a really personalized, empowering way!
