It’s never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever…about the other person.

These fun “Sweet-Ass Affirmations” came from RageCreate. 😊

It’s never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever…about the other person.

That's what my beloved minister said when she began our third class in a series on prosperity. I understood it theoretically, but did I grasp it practically? The latter took a while.

Some people have an instant aversion to this statement. If that's you, don't worry…you aren't alone. Keep reading!

For me, that statement boiled down to the idea that all forgiveness is ultimately self-forgiveness. This concept can be a bit triggering because it requires taking 100% accountability for what you're experiencing, regardless of whether you've received the apology you’d like from the person you feel has wronged you.

Let me back up for a minute and say that this isn’t about excusing poor behavior or turning yourself into a martyr. In fact, it's quite the opposite. People do shitty things sometimes, and that's that! But if you keep thinking it's solely the other person's fault, it becomes nearly impossible to truly forgive and work through the raw emotions needed to achieve real forgiveness - which, in my experience, always starts with forgiving yourself.

So if you find yourself stuck in the blame and shame game with others, it might be time to do some forgiveness work. A great way to start is by practicing the ho'oponopono and/or Radical Forgiveness. Radical Forgiveness offers excellent worksheets to guide you through the process, and I also highly recommend reading the book by Colin Tipping for more context, insight, and ultimately, freedom!

p.s. - Beloved minister?

Yahhhh, I used to attend a wonderful church in Colorado that I loved dearly. It played a big part in my life’s trajectory, actually. It was very open and celebrated all faith paths. I haven’t found anything I’d like to go to on the regular in Portland yet, and I am totally fine with that. While some organizations operate to the contrary, I feel that all religions at their core truths are just vehicles to get people moving forward to the same place…back on home to their hearts!
